The Khowarib Lodge is located on the banks of the Hoanib in the beautiful Khowarib Gorge in northwestern Namibia. Here on the outskirts of Kaokoland, the lodge offers a perfect starting point to explore the remote northwest of Namibia.
The Khowarib Lodge is located 70 km north of Palmwag, 30 km south of Sesfontein on the road D3706 between Palmwag and Sesfontein and 1 km east of the Khowarib settlement.
14 canvas chalets protrude from the riverbank on stilts above the river bed and offer an incomparable, shady view of the cliffs opposite. The luxurious en-suite tents are just a few steps from the lodge on the banks of the river and have twin or double beds. The viewing platforms extend in front of each tent in the shade of many Mopane trees and offer a unique view of the gorge. The bathrooms are spacious and well-equipped, adding to the feeling of luxury and relaxation that the Khowarib Lodge has to offer.
The centerpiece of the lodge complex is a “lapa”, a huge thatched structure with a great view of the surroundings. It also offers a reception area, lounge, bar, dining area, and a curio shop, as well as a veranda with a view of the natural surroundings.
The Khowarib Lodge prides itself on the service of their Damara staff. Of particular note are our senior executives, who all have years of experience in the region and unmatched knowledge of the local environment and wildlife.
This establishment is booked on almost all of our trips to the north and northwest of Namibia. This lodge is an ideal starting point for visits to the Hoanib River Valley, where with a little luck you can meet the rare desert elephants as well as rhinos, lions, and various antelope species. The lodge also serves as an ideal stopover for the onward journey north to Opuwo and the Epupa Falls.
